TRANSFORMING MINDSETS IN SINGAPORE

Gandhi once said, “The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.” As a community, we should be doing our part to cultivate the development of autistic individuals, instead of imposing the heavy burden onto their families. Individuals with autism should not be treated as SECOND-CLASS CITIZENS.

In order to create a groundswell of support for the creation of A Mother’s Wish Community, it is vital to transform the mindset of mainstream society in Singapore.

Here are AMW’s central messages:

Apart from raising public awareness through talks at school and interviews with the mass media, I also met with the Disability Division of the Ministry of Social and Family Services (MSF) in Singapore in 2013 on three occasions. Unfortunately, the dialogue ultimately did not lead to any concrete collaboration between the MSF and AMW.

To learn more about my advocacy on this issue, please check out the slideshow presentation I made for my first meeting with the MSF.
